CSS Austin started in Austin in January 2001
with a Daytime Class offered to all

The purpose of Catholic Scripture Study (CSS) in Austin is to "Grow in grace and in knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.  To HIM be the glory both now and evermore!  Amen." (2 Peter 3:18).  This purpose is achieved by following a plan of scheduled weekly Bible study meetings held eight months of the year.  All are welcome.  No previous class is required.  Members from any church, or those with no church affiliation, are invited.

The class format is simple to follow and provides a friendly atmosphere of Christian fellowship.  The CSS lesson materials expose members not only to Scripture but also to the Catechism of the Catholic Church, quotes from the early Church Fathers, the Saints and to papal writings.

Each person is requested to read the Scripture lesson for the week and to answer the related study questions prior to attending the class.  On class day, after a brief opening program of song and prayer, members separate into small discussion groups led by a Discussion Group Leader.  Then all groups come back together in a central location to hear a lecture on that week's Scripture lesson.  The lecture helps members gain additional insight into the passage as well as personal application.
